August 2002En-Gedi is starting its second fall programming season, and we are very excited about the year ahead. We already have lined up outstanding speakers all the way through next spring, and we will be teaching classes in the fall and winter. It will be a busy year! We have internationally-known authors and scholars coming, sharing some excellent insights on the scriptures in their context. We can hardly believe who we have coming, very first thing - Dr. Steven Notley. Some from our area have had him as a professor when he taught in Jerusalem, and they can't say enough about the excellent insights he has on the gospels. Please try to come hear him if you can.________________________________________________________ En-Gedi Fellowship Dinner - Friday, September 20Mark your calendars and pick out your recipes for our first Fellowship Dinner of the fall! During his 16 years in Israel, Notley was extensively involved in directing travel and field study for students and laity in Israel, Greece and Turkey. He served as chairman of the department of New Testament Studies at Jerusalem University College from 1996 to 2001. Currently, Dr. Notley lives in New York with his wife, Sunya, and their four children. En-Gedi takes great pleasure in hosting several seminars with him on the weekend of September 20 - 22, 2002. For more information about any of these seminars, contact us at egrc@egrc.net or (616) 355-2200.
En-Gedi sponsors a breakfast series for pastors and seminarians with the goal of exploring the cultural background of the Bible. We intend this as forum to discuss the implications of the Jewish culture on biblical interpretation, and ways to introduce congregations to the biblical context. The breakfast will be from 7:30 to 9 AM at the Zeeland Community Center, 14 S Church St, Zeeland, MI 49426. (It is located in the same building as the Zeeland Public Library.)
